THE 2nds continued their winning run with a deserved win over Taunton Deane, chasing down 235 for a superb victory.

With 54 required from eight overs, Bridgwater were in the driving seat, however, when the rain intervened, it looked as though Taunton Deane were going to pull off a victory on run rate. Somehow, the rain relented to enable both sides to get back out on the pitch, which saw Bridgwater coast home.

The Deane won the toss and chose to bat, however Chris Singleton put them immediately on the back foot with three quick wickets, reducing the home side to 14-3 from eight overs.

However, Ben Leach (75), batting at number three, stood firm for the Deane batting time for his side, and he found an able partner in Nathan Jones (61) who put bat to ball, taking their side up to 235 and Singleton picking up four wickets.

Bridgwater set about the large target with a good opening stand of 43 between Todd Barrett (24) and Scott Sealey (14) in good time. Both fell soon after to leave the game in the balance at 73-3. And when the score became 103-5 Bridgwater were a long way short of victory.

Skidmore was joined by Ed Habberfield and the pair picked up the pace. With the game turning in Bridgwater’s favour, the rain decided to intervene with Bridgwater well placed, needing 54 from eight overs. This meant the Deane were ahead on run rate, however somehow the rain relented and both sides were able to get back out on the pitch.

Skidmore (76) continued his match-winning innings and, supported superbly by Habberfield (53 not out), Bridgwater coasted home to victory.
