THE Enmore Golf Club Stag took place in ideal conditions for the 36-hole men’s scratch competition.

The course, however, was punishing as only Tom Small (Farrington +1) managed to break par over the two rounds with a very good 138 (four under par), shooting 69 in both the morning and afternoon rounds.

Small took the coveted Enmore Stag trophy by a massive margin of seven strokes followed by Sam Sloman, Matt Kippen and James Popham all on 145.

The best net score was again recorded by Small with 140 but, as is traditional, he could not win both gross and net prizes so George Weston took this with 141 on a countback over Dominic Bancroft, Neil Bowen (Dudsbury) and Craig Lazenby.

Small has now won a place in the Champions final at Leeds Golf Club in October.

Seniors captain Tony Pomeroy presided over yet another reverse for Enmore Park Seniors and, alarmingly, this was a home fixture conceded to the opposition from the Mendip club.

Not one Enmore pairing could win a complete point but there were three pairs which secured a half-point, namely, Doug Caldwell with Gerry Oates; Roger Anniss and Derek Kelly and Phil Wood with David Tudor.

Enmore’s next fixture is at Yeovil Golf Club.
