FORMER Club Champion Steve Bateman returned to top form with a couple of victories in the past week at Brean.

Firstly a Monthly Medal headed in his direction as he won Division One with a net 71, three strokes in front of current Club Champion Roy Baker.

Seven days later he was back in the winner's circle again as he won the Super Series round with a card amassing 41 pts. This round also served to reduce his handicap back down to four as he relegated Tony Groves into second spot on 40.

Both of the other two Divisions of the Medal were won with nett scores of 70. Matt Haskins was the victor in Division Two ahead of Barrie Tucker whilst Senior Pat Mullholland recorded his first win since recovering from a recent operation in Division Three.

Both winning players also saw their handicaps reduced by a shot as a result of their success. Annie Williams was the winner of the Ladies Medal.

David Morris also posted a win in last Sunday's Super Series event as he carded a total of 40 points. He did however have to survive a countback as Junior Charlie Huggins matched his score overall but couldn't beat Morris over the closing nine holes. Tony Richards took third on 38.

Brean Seniors have moved into the Quarter Finals of the Somerset Bowl for the first time in many years. Last week they defeated the reigning champions, Wells, by three games to two at Stockwood Vale and now face Vivary in the next round.

David Haines continued his steady start to the West Region PGA Order of Merit with another top 15 finish at the Bournemouth Festival. His first round of 70 at Broadstone left him just two shots off the pace but he was unable to move forwards on day two at Dudsbury and slipped back a few spots with his three over par 74.

The result however doesn't leave him in a good position going into the remaining events later in the summer.
