Bridgwater Sports won the League Knock-Out Cup Final in dramatic fashion on penalties and ended Middlezoy Rovers league and cup double dream.

Having being postponed on two occasions, both teams were anxious to play the tie and league champions Middlezoy started the better side and had chances but poor finishing and outstanding goalkeeping by Paul Organ kept the scores level.

Middlezoy took the lead at the end of the first half through Dan Luce but Sports equalised two minutes after the break when Adam Wall squared the ball to top goalscorer Matthew Fursland who made no mistake.

Sports kept pressing for the lead without luck before Rovers scored against the run of play through Steve Hall. But, not to be outdone, Sports came back once again from a corner as Adam Wall rose well to head home with only minutes left to take the game to penalties.

Organ saved the first Middlezoy penalty and then the next eight players all scored but Steve Baker’s penalty for the match was clawed out by the Rovers keeper.

But, again, Organ saved and James Prowse calmly slotted his penalty to spark the celebrations.
