NORTH Petherton were brought down to a bump on Saturday as they fell to a 91-run defeat over Purnells in Division 1 of the Somerset Cricket League.

Purnells batted first and hit 196-5 with L. Knight (2-34) and A. Bunce (2-35) claiming two wickets apiece.

But Petherton’s reply started disastrously as Harrison Bowditch (6), Lewis Irish (2) and Dan Tottle (1) all fell cheaply.

Despite contributions from Ian Hucker (17) and Lewis Irish jnr (24), they crumbled to 105 all out.

Middlezoy bounced back from their defeat last week with a resounding seven-wicket win.

Nathan Barnard (4-53) and James Peacock (3-32) were instrumental with the ball to dismiss Kilmington and Stourton for 217.

Barnard then turned batting hero to hit 94 with Marc Troman (77 not out) to complete the win.

In Division 2, North Newton hit 127-9 on a sticky wicket against Wincanton, mainly thanks to J. Cook (44) and A Jenkins (41 not out).

In reply, P. Jenkins (3-16) and two wickets apiece for C. Street (2-14), G. Kyte (2-11) and J. Sellick (2-11) helped to rout Wincanton to 59 all out.

Bridgwater‘A’ lost to Long Sutton in their Division Three match.

Dan Andison top scored with an unbeaten 40 in Bridgwater’s 151-6 but Long Sutton saw off the target to ease to a seven-wicket win.

In Division Four, Kilve batted Curry Rivel out of the game as they hut 206-8 thanks to a classy 93 from C Taylor.

They then took early wickets in reply from R Penwell (2-27) and J Darrell (3-17) and G Stone (3-26) as they bowled the visitors out for 95.

Bridgwater Sports faced a hefty defeat against Butleigh as the visitors posted a commanding 263-4 with D Russell the pick of the bowlers claiming 3-38.

Then in reply, Bridgwater were 117 all out despite some lusty blows from B Winter, who hit 51.

In Division 8S, Spaxton fell to a five-wicket defeat against Watchet. Spaxton hit 161-6 with K Bellinger top scoring on 43 but they were unable to restrict Watchet who chased down the runs after 30 overs with N Davey picking up 2-29.

Middlezoy 2nds had better luck though as they cruised to a 111-run win over Taunton Deane Crusaders.

A classy 61 from T Nind set up Middlezoy’s total of 200-7 before three wickets for G Purchase (3-42) and P Gray (3-15) helped to skittle Taunton for 89.

In Division 9NW, Chilton Polden 2nds hit 184 against Uphill Castle Crusaders with tail ender L Darlington hitting an unbeaten 43.

In reply, Chilton bowled superbly to rout Uphill for 79 with J Short starring with the ball to claim 4-15.
