TOWN Ladies clinched back-to-back promotions to the South West Women’s League Premier Division after this top-of-the-table battle with Cleeve.

In a ‘winner-takes-all’ match, the teams started nervously but it was Town who eased their nerves on eight minutes when a long cross from the left was headed down by Gemma Baker to Vicky Tindall who struck the ball hard and low into the far corner.

Bridgwater took that lead into the break and doubled it early in the second half when Baker pressurised the Cleeve defence which caused an under-hit back-pass that Chelsea Pitt latched on to before calmly sliding the ball past the Cleeve keeper into the net.

Cleeve pulled a goal back but Bridgwater extended their lead again five minutes from time when Charlotte Barnes powerfully headed home a corner by Anneka Russ.

The visitors struck back again, though, to make it 3-2 but Town held on for a nervy few minutes to seal their promotion.

l Town finish their league campaign on Sunday when they travel to Bristol to take on champions Downend Flyers. Kick-off is at 2pm.
