Bridgwater Saturn 34, Vivary 34 SATURN’S final match of the season was against Vivary.

Knowing they needed a good performance in order to gain points to secure their place in the premier league, Saturn took to the court with a positive attitude.

The first few minutes of the match, however, didn’t go to plan and Vivary took a six-goal lead. Saturn then regrouped and played their game, clawing back vital interceptions courtesy of Sally Haysham (GK) in the circle and making the conversions.

Entering the dreaded third quarter only three goals behind, Saturn held their composure and even took the lead at one point.

Player of the match Emma Reynolds (WD) made numerous interceptions, frustrating the opposition attack, while Becky Palmer (GA) rarely missed a shooting opportunity.

A frantic final 15 minutes saw the lead swing either way and, at the final whistle, the game was tied.

Sydenham Sapphires 36, Parkfield 18 SAPPHIRES fought hard with a good team effort against Parkfield.

Sapphires were able to take an early lead, winning the first quarter 14-7, thanks to brilliant attacking play from centre court players Laura Coombes and Katie Ball and accurate shooting from Sandra Fry and Nic Hale.

Tight defending from Beth Fella and Lynne Cornish meant that Parkfield were only able to score one goal in the second quarter, and a continued strength from the attack meant Sapphires were winning 23-8 at half time.

The addition of Sandy Hockey meant Sapphires were able to stay strong until the end, and won the match 36-18.

Player of the match was Beth Fella and Lynne Cornish
