Sydenham Sapphires 16, Claremont 25 SAPPHIRES found it hard to break down Claremont's defence but their defenders applied great pressure to keep the score to 13-8 at half-time to Claremont.

With a good team effort, Sapphires kept fighting until the end could not beat a stronger side, in what turned out to be a low-scoring game, on the day.

Sue Bushnell was voted player of the match.

Sydenham Rubies 44, Parkfield 30 RUBIES notched up their second win of the season against Parkfield.

Accurate passing from Emma-Jayne Brown to shooters Abi King and Hannah Read and precise shooting gave Rubies a 9-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. A slight change to the defensive line up, helped Rubies to maintain their lead going into the third quarter.

Rachael Coles, Helen Martin and Clare Tottle helped to bring the ball into the attacking third, and with continued accuracy by the shooters, Rubies extended their lead to 44-30.

Abi King was voted player of the match.

Sydenham Emeralds 48, Wasps 20 EMERALDS started well and with consistent play pulled into a good lead with a quarter time score of 11-3 which soon became 20-10 at half-time.

In the third quarter, Emeralds shone. With excellent defence by Emily Hoare and Sandy Hocking, excellent connection with the centre court players of Kerry Clarke, Mikki Hole and Sammie Brown and accurate shooting by Adele Ranford and Lynne Cornish, Emeralds were able to pull ahead with a comfortable lead of 38 - 16.

Although Wasps battled hard, there was no sting in their tail and Emeralds claimed a 48-20 win.

Player of the match was Kerry Clarke.

Sydenham Gems 35, Trident 44 GEMS moved the ball down the court steadily using short, sharp passes in a quarter that ended 8-8.

The second quarter saw strong defending from Gems and interceptions from Nic Hale and Rachel Lawrence but Trident managed to pull ahead 18-21.

The game slowed down in the heat as Gems battled hard and although Gems couldn't manage to break down the Trident attack, they did win the final quarter, but lost the game 35-44. Players of the match were Amy Whitcombe, Nic Hale and Rachel Lawrence.

Sydenham Ambers 35, Newbarn 36 AMBERS got off to a good start with Michelle Martin and Leanne Wegg passing the ball strongly to shooters Megan Walford and Paige Pople whose shots found the net taking Ambers to a three goal lead at half time.

Leanne Wegg intercepted several Newbarn centre passes and defensively Katie Dennison, Addie Doyle and Chelsie Coombes tried to put pressure on the Newbarn attackers.

But Newbarn fought back and for several minutes, the lead changed hands before errors in the final quarter saw Newbarn snatch the win. Player of the match went to Leanne Wegg.
