A PROFESSIONAL footballer from Bridgwater will test himself against some of the country's top footballers later this month.
Scott Laird, 23, plays for Stevenage Town, who take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Last 16 of the FA Cup.
The left-back, a former Bridgwater Town player, could be faced the tough task of keeping nippy England winger Aaron Lennon quiet but Scott's dad, and ex-Bridgwater Town boss, Craig Laird said they are capable of pulling off a cup upset.
He said: “We will see where Scott is in his development but this sort of match will put him in good stead.
“As long as he does his best and goes about his job he and the team will get a good chance to cause an upset - we are all very proud of him whatever happens.”
Scott was also part of the Stevenage side that produced a giant killing over Newcastle United in last year's FA Cup run by dad Craig said his son has not got to wear he is by luck.
He added: “He has made a lot of sacrifices and it has taken a lot of hard work.
“But I hope he is an inspiration to young footballers in Bridgwater because he is proud of his roots here in the town too.”
For an exclusive interview with Scott, see next week's Bridgwater Mercury (February 14 edition).
