BRIDGWATER’S Dean Mills bids for his sixth win since trading in his vest when he faces veteran Johnny Greaves at the Guildhall in Plymouth on March 3.
And the 24-year-old lightweight is relishing the prospect of returning to the scene of his last ring success – a polished points win over Raffi Khan, whom he also floored on his way to victory.
During the interim, Mills moved up a division and made an unsuccessful bid for the International Masters light-welterweight belt against Michael Frontin, losing that ten-round clash on points in London.
Now, he is happy to back boxing in his comfort zone.
Mills said: “On reflection, it was wrong to try and move up to the ten-stone category but I went the distance and picked up some valuable lessons from those ten rounds.
Mills is looking forward to the clash and said: “Johnny is a tough and durable fighter and I don’t expect any favours from him.
“He’s left-handed but that is not a problem for me – unlike some boxers who cannot cope with mirror image.
“I boxed several southpaws as an amateur and, since turning pro, have never lost to one.
“In fact, my first win was against Carl Griffiths – I stopped him in the final session.
“The training has gone well and I cannot wait to get back in the ring.”
A ten-round clash for the vacant British Boxing Board of Control Southern Area Super Featherweight title between Kingsteignton’s Jamie Speight and Londoner Mickey Coveney tops the eight-fight card.
Tickets are now on sale priced at £35 and £45 (ringside) and are available from Dean Mills on 07762 952301.
