Wembdon claim maximum points

11:20am Sunday 22nd August 2010

WEMBDON were asked to field first after skipper Russell Pigden lost the toss.

With points all tight at the top of the table Wembdon knew they needed maximum points.

Against a young Staplegrove team, they were able to take regular wickets with only 3 batsmen making double figures.

With all Wembdon’s bowlers bowling tight and not giving cheap runs, they were able to bowl Staplegrove out for 131 with Pigden (12-0-32-5) the pick of the bowlers taking 5 wickets for the third time this season. Wembdon’s openers Carwyn Jenkins and Mike Parker set about reaching the target cautiously with the pitch offering a lot of assistance for the bowlers.

After the opening 10 overs, the batsmen were able to judge the pitch and they started to accelerate with their scoring - especially Parker who was in a very aggressive mood reaching his 50 in 49 balls and finishing 73 not out off 66 balls.

Jenkins finished on 53 not out to make sure Wembdon won by 10 wickets and therefore claiming maximum points.
