BRIDGWATER Town joint boss Craig Laird insists his side are equipped to cope with an end-of-season fixture pile-up.
Laird’s squad were travelling past Salisbury on Saturday when they got a call saying their clash at Hampshire side VTFC was off because of a waterlogged pitch.
Town wanted to reschedule for this Sunday – which would have meant two games this weekend – but VTFC said no.
Ironically, Town’s next game is at home to VTFC on Tuesday night – kick off 7.45pm.
Laird told the Mercury: “We don’t yet know when the away match is going to be played, but whenever it is, it’s going to mean playing two or three games very close together.
“I think we’ve got the strength in depth to cope. Whatever side we put out is going to be competitive.
“We freshened the side up at Bedfont Green in midweek and won 4-0 and played superbly, which shows we can chop and change and still perform.”
The midweek win followed Town’s impressive victory the previous Saturday at Fairfax Park against previously unbeaten league leaders Windsor and Eton, who have since gone on to lose their unbeaten home record too.
With Nat Pepperell out for the season after shoulder surgery, Town have signed Wellington winger Craig Herrod, who was part of Town joint manager Leigh Robinson’s Toolstation League division one title-winning side in 2007-08.
Town also expect to complete the signings this week of striker Sam Clarke from Clevedon United and winger Paul McKilvaney from Brislington.
