Sydenham netball results round-up


Sydenham Gems 46, Swans 32 GEMS met Swans from Wells, and had a tough and competitive game. The shooters were put under great pressure but remained focussed to find the net.

Defensively, Gems found their opponents unorthodox but accurate. In centre court, Amy Witcombe, Danni Keirle and player of the match Helen Martin kept the team on course for a win.

Rubies 47, Canons 27 RUBIES met Canons, also from Wells, and played a comfortable game with excellent shooting from Abi King and player of the match Shell Parr.

Jo Bromme linked the centre court well and placed some good balls into the circle.

Paulton B 40, Ambers 25 AMBERS travelled to Paulton to play their B team and had a good closely fought and competitive game.

Paige Pople shot well during the first half of the game, linking with Adele Ranford and Ambers were only two goals behind at half time.

Mikki Hole and Steph Elkins made themselves available throughout the game, playing well with Sammie Brown.

A poor third quarter from Ambers allowed Paulton to extend their lead, despite strong defensive work from Kerry Clark, Karen Lewis and player of the match Katie Dennison.

Although they rallied again during the final quarter, the game went to Paulton.

Garnets 29, Newbarn 28 THE closest game of the day saw Garnets in battle with Newbarn from Galmington.

At the end of the first two quarters Garnets had a one-goal lead, thanks to good team play and accurate shooting between Zoe Ranford and Roxy McDowell.

Emma-Jayne Brown placed some great balls into the shooting pair.

Although a slight dip in the third quarter saw Newbarn take a four-goal lead, Garnets did not give up, and ended the quarter ahead.

The final score was a well deserved win to Garnets, with the player of the match vote shared between Roxy McDowell and Addie Moran.

SYDENHAM’S Under-16s played games against Chilcompton and Tor.

Excellent performances from Beth Fella and Emily Hoare worked strongly in defence in both games. The game against Chilcompton was 7-7. Mikki Hole at centre worked strongly working the ball into the shooters.

Sydenham beat Tor 18 -11 with great shooting from Roxy McDowell and Steph Elkins, who both on form. The centre court players, Ruby Linden and Georgia Hodges worked hard making vital interceptions to complete a good team performance.

The Under-14s also had two games, beating Tor B 7-6 and losing to Wells B 2-15.

Strong performances from Kira Shapter, Megan Walford, Leanne Wegg and Hayley Alsbury were well supported by Tasmin Hembury, Georgia Edmundson, Mia Bennet, Molly Gill, Tanisha Birch and Nicky Elkins.

The Under-12s are improving in their play but met some tough competition.

They lost to Purnell Tigers II, Galmington and Yeovil A, but had an excellent win over Purnell Tigers III.

Playing in this team were Sophie Snook, Kimberley Parr, Kirsty Richards, Grace Morris, Maia Ford, Hannah Zeffiretti, Charley Hole and Rhianne Gilbert-Muir.
