TAUNTON AND DISTRICT SATURDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE

League knock out cup semi final

Bridgwater Sports progressed to the final of the league knock out cup beating Bishops Lydeard 3-0.

Goals from Liam Derrick, Josh Bennett and Matt Fursland secured the 2005/06 cup winners the win.

Porlock will be joining them in the final after their impressive 5-1 win over White Hart Rangers.

Matt Drakely scored twice with Gary Bennett, Jack Page and Mark Gunn adding one each.

The final will be placed at Taunton Town's ground on February 25 at 7.30pm.

Division one HIGHBRIDGE Town opened up a five-point gap at the top of the table after beating Locomotives 4-0.

Stuart Carter, Stuart Green Wayne Hand and Will Bailey were on target for the league leaders.

Nether Stowey suffered a crushing 7-1 defeat against Alcombe, who recorded their first league win of the season in only their FOURTH game.

Jason Alexander netted the consolation for Nether Stowey.

Spectators were treated to a ten-goal thriller as Staplegrove beat Cannington Colts 6-4.

Mark Pope hit a hat trick for the Colts with Paul Irvine adding one to give their side a 4-2 lead but Staplegrove came back with an overhead kick from Pete Horton. Tom Bateman and Kirk Poulson netted a brace each and Nick Izzard added one to give Staplegrove the win.

Division two BRIDGWATER Sports cruised for a 4-0 over Sampford Blues. Sports took the lead through a Sampford own goal in the first half and Steve Davies, Tim Netto and Paul Organ completed the scoring the second half.

Predators moved up to second after trouncing Civil Serivce 6-0. Adam Kinsey hit a hat trick, Ryan Weston added two and Leon Wood scored one.

Sydenham Rangers lost 1-0 to Staplegrove Reserves after Jordan Mein scored in just 49 seconds of the kick off.

Wembdon lost to Minehead Reserves 2-1 with Steve Hill and Ashley Horton on target for Minehead. Brendan Pope converted a penalty for Wembdon.

Division three WILLITON closed in on the top spot after beating Appletree 4-1.

Matt Werbitzky scored twice and Joe Fitzsimmons and Eric Ruddy added one each. Mark Kmita scored for Appletree.

Middlezoy Rovers Reserves find themselves heading up a division after their 5-2 win over Exmoor Rangers. The scoring was shared between Martin Innalls, Martin Renton, Paul Hamblin, Jack Taylor and Scott Capel.

North Petherton's leading striker Craig Wright added four to his season's tally as his side beat Bridgwater Sports Colts 5-2.

Liam Simms added the fifth while Craig Savage and Craig Lazenby scored for Colts.

Norton Fitzwarren completed the biggest win of the day by beating Spaxton 11-0. Hat tricks from Liam Bleeks and Dave Buckingham and goals from Joe Enticott, Dominic Cavil, Matt Low, Tom Blundell and James Garrard gave Norton Fitzwarren an emphatic win.

Wembdon Saints picked up three points with a 7-2 victory over Redgate. James O'Brien hit three, Mike Hart two and one each from Mark Passmore and John Doyle. Sam Godfrey and Sam Granville replied for Redgate.

Division four WESTONZOYLAND Reserves and Rhode Lane Wanders held a minute's silence prior to their game in honour of former Westonzoyland player Paul Donoghue, who sadly passed away in the week.

With a little bit more to play for, Westonzoyland won the game 4-2 with Aaron James netting twice, Dan Wilkes and Matt Weston once each. Ben Patrick and Jack Winter replied for Wanderers.

Stogursey's 5-2 win over Milverton Rangers has taken them to the top of the table. Dean Marchent scored a hat trick Matt Tooze and David Spillsbury added one each. Craig Plumridge and Dave Sharland responded for Rangers.

Bridgwater Grasshoppers scored for the fifth consecutive week but it wasn't enough to give them their first elusive win as they went down 7-1 to Norton Fitzwarren Reserves. Chris Harman scored for Grasshoppers.

Staplegrove Colts went to Nether Stowey with ten men and were one down mid way through the first half but they came back with goals from Adam Smith and Terry McKierran to take the lead. But tired legs on a heavy pitch did it for them in the end with Stowey coming out 4-2 winners. Ben Enever, with three, and James Scrimegour, scored nether Stowey's goals with one.

North Petherton Reserves put up a good show against Hamilton Hawks but lost 3-2. James Fox and Jack Sealey scored for North Petherton. Dave Chambers netted twice for Hawks with Kris Sangster scoring once.

FORMER Westonzoyland player Paul Donoghue has died.

Paul started playing for Wetonzoyland in their first season of joining the League in 1984 and continued playing for the club until he became ill.

Dedicated Paul continued to play for his side most weeks after moving to Chipping Sodbury near Bristol and will be missed by all at Westonzoyland FC.

The Taunton and District Saturday Football League has extended its condolences to Paul's family.
