HORRIFIED members of Over Stowey Cricket Club have described damage caused to its pavilion roof as “carnage”.
Prolonged rain and snowfall have caused the interior roof on its changing rooms the collapse, leaving it unsafe and unusable.
The club now faces a dilemma without changing facilities with the 2010 season just around the corner.
Dismayed chairman Phil Rich described the scene as “carnage”, with water dripping from the ceiling, bits of roof hanging off and puddles of water around the seating areas.
The club had already submitted plans to extend and improve the pavilion, with an estimated cost of around £25,000 for materials, but finances for a club like Over Stowey are at a premium to complete the work.
Some club members have volunteered their skills to help with the improvements, but the purchase of materials is causing a headache.
Phil is optimistic the club can fix it in the short term but said: “Without immediate action to get the extension off the ground we are going to have this problem time after time.
“We have the man power to do the work ourselves but just need the materials to do the job. If anyone can help, please contact me.”
If you can help Over Stowey Cricket Club, contact Phil on 01278-732675 or speak to pavilion project manager Ashley on 01278-733532.
