THEIR seventh win in a row, by four at home to Buccaneers, kept Gentle Giants top of the men's Premier in the Bridgwater & District Summer Skittles League.
Two points behind are Fireworks, who swapped places with their hosts Limeys as they beat them by ten. Fourth-placed Slades had a close match away to Wanderers, with the lead changing four times before Slades, having been left 47, won by three. Steve Cresswell hit 84 for Daydreamers as they beat Old Teasers by 27 at the Old Market Although Riff Raff lost to Outs & Ins by 17, at their temporary home until the Newmarket Hotel reopens, they still lead the men's Early, but only by one from their conquerors and Folly Boys, winners by 30 at Wellworthy Colts. The rest of the field are five points back.
Once again, there is a tie at the top of the men's Main, between Gamblers and Flintstones. The former team lost by five at home to Bunch of Key'unts and Flintstones were last-hand, three-pin winners over visitors Carol's Barmy Army.
The all-Railway Club match in the mixed Brunettes saw the Six win "at home" by seven against Shunters. That allowed Faux Pas, 41-pin winners at home to Nam Nuts, and The Clan, who beat top team Mixtures by 21 at Blake Arms, to draw level with Shunters in second place.
Mad Hatters remained top of the mixed Primrose after a two-pin away victory at Misfits. Champions Commercial A have lost four of their last five matches, the latest defeat by eight at King's Head Inn, who have joined them in second place. Also second are Jacks & Jills, who won by four away to Scorchers.
Only one point separates the top two in the mixed Bluebell after leaders Trumpeters won by 55 at home to bottom team Globe Inn Rejects and rivals The Snoots also had a big home win, against joint-third Legion Louts. Globetrotters are the other joint third team after beating Wish We Waz.
In the mixed Blondes, it seems that if you go top, you lose the next match. This time, Barmies, the latest leaders, lost by 21 away to Pointless Parretts, who were bottom a month ago and are now joint third. Choppers went back to the top, while Rebellions are now only one point adrift at the bottom after winning for the second week running.
There is now a clear leader in the ladies' Champions: Market Maids, who won away to Lizzy's Ladies, in a match played at the Squib because the Newmarket is closed. A point behind are Mo's Gems, who won at home, while Arf Dozen dropped to third with their third defeat of the season, by 14 away to Housemaids.
One of the four unbeaten records in the ladies' league went when Piglets, the Pearls' leaders, went down by 69 away to Daff's Dollies, for whom Louise Howard hit 65. In a see-saw match, El Syd, ten up after two hands at home to Shove Overs, scraped home by one.
Flopperettes continued their unbeaten run in the ladies' Emeralds with a ten-pin home victory over fourth-places Write Offs. Kerry Burnell's 61 topped the alley for Withy Maids in their 17-pin home success over Nutcrackers, which kept them second. Forest Gumps won at last when they beat home team Die Hards at the newly-re-opened Black Horse.
In the ladies' Rubies, the leaders Cheeky Girls had their match with Babes in Arms postponed, but second-place Gremlins Girls could not capitalise as they lost to joint-third Blue Jeans by three on the last hand. Slappers are the other joint third team after beating Cross Rifles by 40 away.
There was no change at the top of the ladies' Rubies as Otters continued their unbeaten season with a 24-pin away victory over Pink Ladies. Wicked Ladies had their bye and Generations joined them in second place, six points behind Otters, beating Geef Teeth by 42 at the Globe, North Petherton. Pawlett Rebels won for the first time, beating visitors Ladybirds by 45.
