SHIRELLE Stubbs, of Woolavington, has become a British women's champion in the demanding martial art of taekwondo - at the age of 14.

The Chilton Trinity Technology College pupil competed at the Matt Fiddes National Championships in Birmingham and won nine fights to become champion in two freestyle taekwondo disciplines, points sparring and continuous sparring.

A black belt since she was ten, Shirelle won her second-degree black at 12 and is training for her third degree. She is one of the youngest to have reached such a high level in Europe.

She has attended the Matt Fiddes School's Bridgwater classes at St John and St Francis School School since she was eight, making rapid progress.
