Toolstation Western League Premier Division

Bridgwater Town 6, Bradford Town 2

BRIDGWATER Town kept hold of top spot in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division with an emphatic home win over fellow high-flyers Bradford Town.

Robins player-manager Dave Pearse wanted a response from his side after last weekend's 3-0 FA Vase defeat at Exmouth Town and he certainly got it, with five different players on the scoresheet on an enjoyable afternoon for the Fairfax Park crowd.

Town's first was uncomplicated. Centre-half Tom Ellis launched a trademark long throw into the box, where his defensive partner Josh White was on hand to flick past the visiting goalkeeper.

Jack Taylor made it two on 21 minutes, converting Jake Llewellyn's cross, and added a third when he tucked home the rebound after his penalty had been saved.

Sam Towler's inch-perfect lob made it 4-0 at half-time, but Bradford started the second period on top and pulled one back with a fine finish from the edge of the box.

The second half was more competitive than the first, but the hosts restored their four-goal cushion when Mike Duffy found the corner of the net just after the hour.

A bad afternoon for the visitors got worse when they went down to 10 men, and not long afterwards Harry Horton made it six by finishing a move he had started.

Bradford scored a second in injury time, but it did little to dampen home spirits on a rainy afternoon.

Town are level on points with Willand Rovers at the top of the division having played a game more - next up for Bridgwater is a trip to Clevedon Town next Saturday.

Bridgwater Town: Jake Viney, Dave Thorne, Tom Ellis, Jake White (Dave Pearse 73), Kurt Robinson, Mark Armstrong, Mike Duffy (Charlie White 67), Harry Horton, Sam Towler, Jake Taylor, Jake Llewellyn.
