North Petherton Ladies 33, Chew Valley Cats 17

NORTH Petherton’s first home match of the season saw the ladies bag themselves their first win of the season, beating Chew Valley Cats 33-17.

Chew Valley scored early with a converted try, after which Pethy came back with revenge with two high quality tries.

The first came from a quick pass through the hands of Natasha Palmer to a fleet footed Charlie Woodman, who skipped through the defensive line and scored Pethy’s first try.

A quick second try came from Claire Williams chipping the ball over Chew Valley’s strong defensive line in which Woodman caught the perfect bounce to score another directly under the posts – both were converted by Rosie Wheeler.

Chew Valley came back at North Petherton and forwards Jo Williams and Sarah Cavil made some huge tackles to defend the line but Chew Valley broke through and scored another two unconverted tries.

Another opportunity arose after forward Kelly Palmer passed to Kate Williams, who instantly saw space out with the backs into which Woodman skipped across the line.

With a tough second half ahead, they worked hard to plug their way into Chew Valley’s 22 where a quick thinking Stacey Saunders saw a gap and scored the third unconverted try.

Chew Valley tried to come back but just couldn’t break through Pethy’s defensive line where again the forwards fought off their attacking line.

With the final whistle looming, another try was bagged as a strong scrum saw the ball heading back out to Woodman, who scored a perfect converted try under the posts.
