HANNAH Woodley, from Enmore Park Golf Club, is the new English Women’s County Champion of Champions after winning the title with a score of three-over par after 36 holes, with rounds of 71 and 72 at Frilford Heath Golf Club in Oxfordshire.

She finished a shot ahead of Northumberland’s Ami Story (Bedlingtonshire), while Nottinghamshire’s Libby Kilbride (Dore & Totley) was third, a further five shots back.

The Enmore Park golfer said: “I’m over the moon - it’s an incredible feeling to win a big one.

“This is a thinker’s golf course, you don’t need to hit it miles but you need to put it in the right position to hit the green.”

Woodley has been Somerset county champion four times in the past five years and has played at women’s Champion of Champions since the event was started in 2016.

“It’s a really good tournament, an amazing addition to the calendar - and I’d think that even if I didn’t get through,” she said.

“It’s a great way to round off the season.”

Woodley, 31, was a regular on the national amateur circuit, but when she worked as an emergency call handler for the police for over five years she had to cut back on her playing commitments.

Five months ago she returned to the golfing world with a new job as a tournament controller for the PGA’s South West and Wales region.

She added: “It’s fantastic, I’m enjoying being back around golf and it’s lovely to watch good golf - maybe that has helped, it has rubbed off on me!”

WITH Seniors captain Graham Pain back in charge after his recovery from a golfing injury, he led Enmore Park across the River Parrett to the links course of the Burnham and Berrow club.

It was a welcome return as, with his partner, Steve James, he registered a win by being two up at the finish.

The team did not fare quite so well with only one other win by Carl Netto with Steve Lukins (3&2) while Paul Waplington with Chris Willsteed halved their match leaving the final scoreline 3½-2½ in the home team’s favour.

Enmore Park Seniors travelled along the A39 to Minehead.

On a day best described as autumnal, Enmore came away second best once again with only Jess Lawrence with Jim McGukin registering a win by 5&4.

Tim Smith and John Earp gained a half-point, making the final score Minehead 4½, Enmore 1½.

ENMORE teams took part in The MET Shield on Saturday - played against Minehead and Tiverton.

The A team travelled to Minehead, the B team at Enmore and the Juniors at Tiverton.

The games were played in great spirit with the format being morning foursomes followed by singles in the afternoon.

Tiverton won the Shield.
