Toolstation Western League Premier Division

Hengrove Athletic 1, Bridgwater Town 4

BRIDGWATER Town stayed top of the Toolstation Western League Premier Division with an impressive win at Hengrove Athletic.

The match was due to have been played on the opening day of the season only to have been postponed due to cracks in the playing surface, and both sides spurned chances early on in the re-arranged fixture.

Ian Bellinger saw his effort ruled out for offside on 26 minutes but the Robins were not to be denied shortly afterwards, when a shot hit defender Lee Begg and looped into the net.

Town's lead lasted just two minutes as a Tom Ellis own goal brought the hosts level, the centre-half sending a header beyond his own goalkeeper from a free-kick.

The score remained 1-1 at half-time but the Robins were back in front soon after the restart when Jack Taylor converted from the spot.

Ellis then atoned for his earlier own goal by scoring at the right end, heading home Bellinger's corner just after the hour to open up a vital two-goal cushion.

Fine work from Sam Towler then set up Kurt Robinson to put the game beyond doubt, as Town bounced back from Tuesday's last-gasp defeat at home to Plymouth Parkway in fine style.

Next up for the Robins is a trip to Exmouth Town in the FA Vase on Saturday.
