Chipping Sodbury Town 0, Bridgwater Town 8

BRIDGWATER Town went top of the Premier Division standings after eight different goalscorers propelled the Robins to a thumping win at Chipping Sodbury Town on Saturday.

Clearly buoyed by confidence after their 6-0 thrashing of Brislington the weekend before, the visitors took the lead after five minutes and never looked back.

The opener came from a set-piece, Harry Horton delivering the free-kick into the box for Jake Brown to head home.

Jack Taylor saw a penalty well saved on 18 minutes, after Brown was fouled, but four minutes later Taylor did make it 2-0, heading in Charlie White's well-judged cross.

The third goal came on the half-hour, again Horton sending in a free-kick and this time Tom Ellis getting up to head past the keeper.

Horton himself made it 4-0 just before half time, pouncing after a deflection fell kindly for him to finish coolly.

The onslaught did not abate after the interval, as a fine team move that saw Taylor, Horton and Sam Towler combine ended with Towler finishing into the roof of the net in the 53rd minute.

Just two minutes after that Kurt Robinson made it six, with a ball from out wide which deceived the keeper and went in at the back post.

At this point the Robins made three changes, and two of the substitutes rounded off the scoring, with Ryan Burrows racing onto a through ball and firing home on 78 minutes.

Then Ian Bellinger cut in from the left, beat the keeper and finished with ease to bring up goal number eight on 84 minutes.

The result took Bridgwater to the top of the table, and this Tuesday (ko 7.45pm) they will look to continue their fine run at home to Plymouth Parkway, the pre-season title favourites.
