SOMERSET head coach Jason Kerr says Lewis Gregory has a "50-50 chance" of being fit to face Notts Outlaws in Sunday's Vitality T20 Blast quarter-final in Taunton.

Gregory has captained the T20 side this season, and showed excellent form with the bat in the group stage of the competition.

However, the 26-year-old all-rounder sustained a groin injury in the County Championship win over Essex this week, and did not bowl in the second innings.

Kerr said: “Lewis will be living with our physiotherapist over the next couple of days. There is only a 50-50 chance that he will face Notts.

“It would be a blow losing him because he has had a phenomenal group campaign, playing brilliantly and leading the team really well.

“We have an England player as potential replacement in Craig Overton, who has not been playing in the competition.

“But I would be very disappointed for Lewis if he couldn’t lead the team out on such a big occasion.”

Tickets for Sunday's match sold out within 72 hours of going on sale, so a crowd of more than 7,000 is expected to watch Somerset and Notts battle to reach finals day at Edgbaston on Saturday, September 15.

That is assuming the weather does not intervene; the forecast for Sunday does not look promising as things stand.

Should the match be rained off, Monday would be used as a reserve day - although many fans would not be able to attend, and it would also mean a clash with Kia Super League finals day, featuring Western Storm.

ENGLAND, meanwhile, have once again overlooked Somerset's players in naming their squad for the fourth Test against India.

James Vince has been recalled, the Hampshire batsman in line to feature on home soil, with the Test being held at the Ageas Bowl from August 30 to September 3.

Vince is to provide cover for Jonny Bairstow, who broke a finger in the third Test; Taunton-born Jos Buttler is expected to play as wicketkeeper even if Bairstow is passed fit to make the side.

It means there is no place for James Hildreth, nor for his Somerset team-mates Jack Leach and Dom Bess.

Leach made his case for selection in some style yesterday, taking career best figures of 8-85 from 48 overs (also the best figures by any bowler in Division 1 of the County Championship this season) against Essex.

England have preferred Moeen Ali - who hit a first-innings 219 and returned match figures of 8-89 for Worcestershire against Yorkshire this week - and Adil Rashid (who is on a white-ball-only club contract) to fill the spin bowler positions in their squad.

Much as Somerset fans are frustrated not to see their heroes in the international frame, it does mean that they have all weapons at their disposal for the County Championship match with Yorkshire that starts on August 29.

Full England squad: Joe Root (c), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Jos Buttler, Alastair Cook, Sam Curran, Keaton Jennings, Ollie Pope, Ben Stokes, Adil Rashid, James Vince, Chris Woakes.
