MORE fireworks from Corey Anderson and another stellar bowling performance from Max Waller handed Somerset a seventh straight victory in the Vitality T20 Blast, by 29 runs over Glamorgan on Sunday.

Anderson top scored with 72 in the hosts' 210-8, before Waller took 4-25 as the away side ended on 181-9, a result which secures Somerset's place in the quarter-finals.

The start at the Cooper Associates County Ground was delayed until 3.15pm by earlier rain, and the home side were off to a slow start, reaching 75-3 at the halfway stage in their innings, having been put in to bat.

This was despite a decent 36 by opener Steve Davies, off 31 balls.

But Anderson joined James Hildreth at the wicket and the pair increased the run rate with a 50-run fifth-wicket partnership off just 20 balls.

Hildreth brought up the hosts' 100, but was well caught for 47 by wicketkeeper Chris Cooke as he attempted a scoop.

Anderson continued to mete out the punishment, though, especially in the 16th over of Graham Wagg, as he and Lewis Gregory helped themselves to 19 - Anderson sending one maximum high into St James' churchyard.

The New Zealander reached his 50, before Gregory fell for 22 (caught by ex-Somerset man Craig Meschede) after a sixth-wicket stand of 57.

Michael Hogan went for 25 in the 19th over, Anderson thumping three 6s, which saw Somerset pass 200.

Anderson finally fell for 72 (off 30 balls, with four 4s and six 6s) when he was caught by Cooke off Wagg, who also had Jamie Overton caught in the final over as the hosts posted 210-8.

The reply began badly, as Jerome Taylor (2-30) had Aneurin Donald caught by Overton in the second over, and Overton then removed Glamorgan skipper Colin Ingram (19), caught by Craig Overton, fielding as substitute.

Waller then claimed two key wickets - Kiran Carlson (16), caught by Craig Overton, and Meschede (35), snared by Jamie Overton.

Gregory was sharp enough to snaffle a run-out opportunity to dismiss Wagg, before Cooke and Andrew Salter added 40 for the seventh wicket.

But Waller then struck again, Salter (21) the latest visiting batsman to be caught by an Overton - Craig clearly relishing getting his shot at substitute fielder.

The same pairing combined to remove Cooke (25), giving Waller his fourth wicket, and there was no prospect of Glamorgan catching the Somerset total, as they ended on 181-9 with Timm van der Gugten on 21no and Hogan 17no.

Somerset will look to end the T20 group stage on a high - with an eight consecutive win - away to bogey team Kent, on Thursday (August 16, 7pm start).
