CAPTAIN’S Day at Enmore Park Golf Club saw Mac McNairn win the Captain’s Putter with an excellent 40 points.

Winning the ladies prize, with 38 points, was Diana Webster, ahead of Melanie Millar (35) and Shani Whisler (33).

Results
Division 1 - 1. Andrew Chambers (38); 2. Sean Jones (38); 3. Matt Lazenby (37).
Division 2 - 1. Andrew Atkinson (39); 2. Paul Webber (38); 3. Clive Legg (38).

In the Avalon League, Enmore played Orchard Leigh.

The pairs of Mat Lazenby and Danny Crook, Neil Whisler and Tim Jones, and Ryan Brewer and club captain Paul Thorogood won their matches.

A half was obtained by Taylor Stote and Ronnie Brown, while the only loss was for Fred Henderson and Jack Dray.

Enmore Royals had a convincing win against Avon & Somerset People Police on Monday, with a 4-2 victory.

In the Midweek Stableford, Mark Hoar won with 39 points, ahead of Derek Bremner (38) and Liam Neal (37).

With Enmore’s seniors captain improving his game in Portugal, stand-in captain Steve Lukins enjoyed a winning start against local rivals Burnham & Berrow.

On a perfect sunny day the contest was close, but Enmore prevailed 3½-2½.

Enmore’s points were won by Norman Webb with Peter Sherry (2 & 1), Steve Lukins with Keith Norcutt, and Phil Wood with Chris Willsteed (both 1 up), while Iain Stewart and Keith Calvert gained the half.

The away trip to Sherborne proved less fruitful.

With many fairways and green sides ravaged by damage done to the course, it took the away team a while to get used to the conditions as they could only muster 2½ points to the home team’s 5½.

Enmore’s points came from Mike Sullivan with Peter Scott (5 & 4), Steve Lukins with Peter Sherry (1 up), and David Pascoe with David Brown (half).

HOT on the heels of his victory in the Sports Celebrity-Am last Wednesday, Martyn Cahill found himself in the Brean Golf Club winners’ enclosure once again in Sunday’s Open Threeball Scramble.

He teamed up with Andy Thomas and Paul McLanaghan for the event and the ‘dream trio’ produced a superb nett score of 54.8 to win by just under a shot from the Jones team.

Three generations of the Jones family – David, Steve and Millie – joined forces to take second on 55.7, one shot clear of the final prizewinners in the shape of Don, Ron and Linda Edmondson.

The previous day Roger Phillips, Barrie Tucker and Brian Read teamed up to win the Open Bowmaker.

They returned a score of 126, leaving them one clear of two teams.

A countback was required, and the visiting Kendleshire trio of Marc, Phil and Karen Bowers had the better back nine to take the runners-up prize.

Trevor Pitt, Brian Waite and Barry Fellows had to settle for third after also scoring 127.

The Division 3 Avalon League team enjoyed an successful trip to Mendip Spring on Saturday.

They defeated their hosts 3.5-1.5, to further strengthen their position at the top of the league table, although other teams do have games in hand on them.

With three games left this season, they hope they can maintain their good form and gain promotion back to Division 2 for next season.

Don Edmondson carded a superb nett 63 in the third and final round of the Seniors Captain’s Cup to win on the day, but agonisingly he came up one shot shy overall.

His total of 132 was beaten by Barrie Tucker, who did all his scoring in the opening two rounds of the series to take the trophy.

Runner-up to Edmondson on the day was George Stratford, with a nett 67, and it was Stratford who finished third overall on a score of 133.

Third place on the day was claimed by Mick Smith, with a nett 69, after a countback with three others.

The Seniors have enjoyed a mixed bag of results in recent matches.

Both were away from home and they were defeated by Kingweston in the second leg of the KingBrean Trophy by four games to two, which also saw the silverware – awarded for the overall result of the two games each year – reside with their opponents for the next 12 months.

They enjoyed better fortunes at Weston-super-Mare, though, as they gained a victory.
