THE phrase “there are no easy games” has become something of a sporting cliché but it is certainly the case in this year’s Royal London One-Day Cup.

We started the road to Lord’s with a trip to Surrey. The Kia Oval is never an easy place to go and they have quality all the way through their side, but we went in to the game full of confidence.

Craig Overton’s opening spell was very special and he was almost unplayable.

His performance was backed up in the field and to bowl them out for 129 was a tremendous effort - not many teams will do that to Surrey this year.

Mybs and Hildy then knocked off the runs to provide the perfect start for us.

Next up was Glamorgan at home and the atmosphere on Sunday was superb.

The ground was rocking, and it is a tremendous place to play. The Members and supporters are so passionate and knowledgeable and they really get behind us.

Hildy’s innings in that match was absolutely outstanding. He is in great form at the moment and I can’t for the life of me understand why he hasn’t been called up by England.

It would be easy to focus on his 159 but Tom Abell’s rapid 40 was key to that win too.

On Tuesday we welcomed Sussex Sharks to Taunton and also celebrated our annual Schools Day.

It was great to see so many kids in the ground and hopefully they enjoyed the game.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t quite get over the line but sometimes you have to take your hat off to your opponents. Luke Wright played very well and I think they deserved their win.

As I write we are getting ready for the match at Essex where hopefully we can get back to winning ways.

I also want to wish Dom all the best for his England debut. He has done really well and everyone in the dressing room will be keeping a very close eye on proceedings at Lord’s.
