Somerset County League Premier Division

Wells City Res 1, Middlezoy Rovers 2

MIDDLEZOY travelled to bottom team Wells on Saturday following back to back defeats for the first time this season.

Zoy started on top and pegged Wells back from the start, Johnny Higgins cutting inside from the left and drilling a shot which was well saved by Josh Bond.

Minutes later Ross Coleman and Callum Laird combined well to work a cross to the far post that Jamie Temlett thought he had converted, but somehow Bond managed to tip the effort around the post.

Wells were comfortable letting Middlezoy have the ball in their own half and looked to take advantage through any sloppy passing or counter attacking opportunities.

After numerous Middlezoy corners and attacking opportunities, they were hit with a sucker punch when Wells took the lead against the run of play on 25 minutes.

It came from the spot after shirt pulling at a corner, and Steve Emery sent Greg Turner the wrong way to give the hosts a scarcely deserved lead.

Zoy went after the equaliser from the re-start with opportunities falling to Dan Luce, Alex Male, Callum Laird, Ross Coleman and Adam Long as Middlezoy played much higher up the pitch.

The visitors had Greg Turner to thank after a short back pass put a centre forward through, with Turner making himself big to smother the effort.

Aaron Whaites replaced the injured Dan Luce at half time and the emphasis was on moving the ball quicker as they sought to turn the game around.

Zoy had two long range efforts from Andy Smith and Jamie Temlett that indicated their intent, and a change of shape paid dividends as the equaliser came when Jamie Temlett found the bottom corner from 25 yards on the hour.

Ross Coleman then gave way to Craig Wright, who had an instant impact as he started to link the play with the two wing backs.

Lintell replaced the hard working Temlett and soon a well worked quick throw in found Adam Long, who laid off to Wright to finish into the bottom left corner with a smart finish to hand Zoy the advantage.

Aaron Whaites came the closest to extending the lead as his 35 yard thunderbolt struck the Wells crossbar and the defence was solid Middlezoy closed out a deserved win.

Staplegrove 0, Bridgwater Town Reserves 1

BRIDGWATER Town Reserves secured a crucial three points in their bid to avoid relegation from the Somerset County League Premier Division on Saturday.

Making the short trip to fellow strugglers Staplegrove, who are on a poor run of form, Town put in a solid display to increase the breathing space between themselves and the drop.

Josh Champion scored the all-important goal for the Robins to make it two goals in two games for the right-back.

Next up, Town host Stockwood Wanderers tonight (Tuesday) before travelling to Watchet Town on Saturday.
