Bridgwater Town 2, Cribbs 1

BRIDGWATER Town strengthened their grip on sixth place in the Premier Division table by beating seventh-placed Cribbs at Fairfax Park on Saturday.

The hosts made an incredible start, as Syd Camper struck the opening goal with just 14 seconds played.

Aside from one moment of danger, when goalkeeper Connor Sidley-Adams had to push away an effort from the visitors, the Robins looked comfortable enough as the snow came down.

And they extended their lead on the half hour, as Camper put pressure on the opposition keeper, whose poor clearance only found Harry Horton, and he scored into the empty net from 30 yards out.

The advantage remained 2-0 at half time, but 15 minutes into the second period Cribbs were presented with a chance to halve the deficit as Sidley-Adams conceded a penalty.

The keeper saved the first effort, but could not repel the rebound, and suddenly the away side were right back in it.

Cribbs were on top for the remainder of the game, as the Robins looked to play on the counter, but neither side could create any clear-cut chances.

That was until the last few minutes, when Bridgwater striker Jack Taylor hit the post and then had a shot cleared off the line.

Those missed chances ultimately did not matter, as the hosts held on for all three points, which means there are now five points between themselves in sixth and Cribbs in seventh.

Bridgwater's next match, weather permitting, is on Tuesday at home to Odd Down (ko 7.45pm), before they host Bitton in the Les Phillips Cup quarter-finals next Saturday (ko 3pm).
