BROTHERS Casey Thompson and Tommy Heyburn, of Sydenham Amateur Boxing Club, travelled to Exeter University for the show Varsity 2.0 on Friday night.

They came away with one win and one loss, with both lads learning a great deal.

First up was Heyburn in a schoolboy bout, and he spent the first round adjusting to the pace and relentless pressure of his opponent.

After strong words from coach Rob Scutt, the fight pattern changed throughout the second half, with the Sydenham boxer outworking and scoring the cleaning shots.

He gained the win and more importantly a great lesson in how listening to the advice from your coach can make the difference.

Second to fight was 18-year-old Thompson, in his first bout.

He has been working non-stop in the gym, with his dedication and work rate second to none.

Thompson started with long straight shots, jabbing and moving.

But as time slipped away he was caught on the end of some very heavy right hands from his opponent, and after a couple of standing counts the bout was stopped.

Thompson can, however, take a lot away from this experience, and will go back to the gym to improve and become a more knowledgeable boxer and athlete.
