South West Regional League 3S
Storm 57, Sydenham Gems 42

WITH a long journey down to Truro this Sunday, a good warm-up was required.

The home side started strongly, linking well down the court and converting all centre passes to goal, with Gems one step behind.

The second half of the game saw changes from the Gems squad, and they seemed a little more awake with great defence in the circle from Beth Fella and Kerry Fellows.

The final quarter was more evenly matched, but the visitors could not claw back the goal difference, and Storm won 57-42.

It was a great competitive game, and massive thanks go to Laura Coombes, Kerry Clark and Jess Bull for being part of the squad.

Somerset Division 1
Avalon 46, Sapphires 48

SAPPHIRES travelled to Street on Saturday to take on fourth-placed Avalon.

Laura Coombes (WA) and Karis Holleron (C) were able to create some great spaces in the centre court, and with dynamic movement from Carly Langdon (GA) and Michelle Jenkins (GS), they were able to feed into the circle with ease.

The shooters were consistent throughout, which helped their side lead from the start.

Sapphires continued to pull away throughout the game, and they stretched their lead to 12 going into the final quarter.

Tiredness then set in, which allowed Avalon an opportunity to fight back, but Sapphires held on.

Somerset Division 2
Sydenham Rubies 59, Kites 39

RUBIES needed to go out strongly against Kites after a five-goal defeat against them in the first half of the season.

They did just that, with accurate passing into the shooting circle from Steph Gibson and Kirsty Richards making things easy for Justine Pearn and Carly Langdon to go for goal.

Rubies took control for the rest of the game and, though a few mistakes saw Kites claw goals back, Rubies took a 14-goal lead into the final quarter.

Rubies continued as they had throughout the match and won the game 59-39.

South West Regional League 2
Jupiter 17, Hucclecote 82

JUPITER went into the game knowing the high standard of the opposition but determined to play their best.

Despite accurate shooting from Kia Jenner (GS) and Cerys Ethridge (GA), Jupiter struggled and ended the first quarter trailing 27-3.

A change in defence saw Julie McClean (GD) and Sally Haysham (GK) applying pressure, and Jupiter managed to double their score, ending the second quarter 43-6 behind.

Lauren Cook worked tirelessly, ensuring the ball was carried into the circle, where Maddie Kennard took some amazing shots.

Determined to limit the goals scored by Hucclecote, every member of the squad continued to give their all.

Defence from Emily Bridges (GD) and great drives down court from Hannah Sayer (C) meant that Jupiter could maintain a sustainable scoring rate, ending the game 82-17.
