SOMERSET spinner Jack Leach has been included in the England Lions side to take on a Queensland XII in Brisbane in a three-day match from today.

The side is captained by Keaton Jenkins, and includes Ashes squad members Tom Curran and Ben Foakes.

Leach also appears among Mark Wood, the Durham fast bowler who is aiming for a late Ashes call-up after injury.

England suffered a chastening 10-wicket defeat to Australia in the first Ashes Test at the Gabba, which may well open the door to other bowlers.

There are doubts about the fitness of Jake Ball, who took 1-115 in the match.

Ball was picked ahead of Craig Overton, and the Somerset seamer will be hoping to win his chance to impact the series, which continues with the second Test in Adelaide, a day-night match which begins this Saturday.
