Bridgwater Town 0, Brislington 2

BRIDGWATER'S brilliant start to the season came to a juddering halt on Saturday, as visitors Brislington came away with Fairfax Park with all three points.

The home side had the majority of possession and territory, but failed to create many chances, and as such Brislington were deserved victors.

Too many long balls in the first half saw frontman Dave Pearse isolated, and Robins goalkeeper Jake Viney had to make a smart save to keep out Aaron Cornwall's free-kick.

Viney then made a double save amid a goalmouth scramble, but could not prevent the visitors going ahead on 41 minutes.

Chris Gardener's free-kick from out on the left was caught by the wind, and evaded defenders and goalkeeper as it found the net off the far post.

The Robins almost levelled on the stroke of half time, but Shaun Lambert's header from Josh White's long throw hit the post and bounced away.

Five minutes into the second period Pearse's 10-yard effort from Syd Camper's ball in was cleared off the line, and some last-ditch defending cleared White's header from a Camper corner 10 minutes after that.

The away side created chances too, as Jason Hughes' volley was denied by another goal-line clearance, and Mike Rimmer's header was repelled by an exceptional save from Viney.

As the hosts pressed for an equaliser, Liam Planter found Danny Hunt in the clear, and he scored the second goal to wrap it up in injury time.

The Robins have two quick-fire opportunities to redeem themselves, as they travel to Street tonight (ko 7.30pm) and then host Brislington again – this time in the FA Cup preliminary round – on Saturday, August 19 (ko 3pm).

Stockwood Wanderers 1, Middlezoy Rovers 2

MIDDLEZOY Rovers got their season up and running with a good away victory at Stockwood Wanderers.

Zoy led after 10 minutes after a Stockwood defender headed into his own net, but a deflected strike levelled proceedings just two minutes later.

Jake Horsey headed in from Steve Hall's cross just before half time, and with no further goals after the interval, the visitors came away with the points.

Tom Brown was named man of the match for the victors.

Next up for Zoy is a run of five consecutive home matches, starting with the visit of Staplegrove on Wednesday (August 16, ko 6.30pm).

On Saturday (August 19), they host Fry Club (ko 3pm).
