Tomahawks 49, Saturn 56

SATURN’S last game of the season was always going to be tense as the winner would finish above the other.

Saturn edged the first quarter 16-15, as Kia Jenner (WD) linked well with the drives of Gabby Nardiello (WA), but at half time the home team had brought it back to 26-26.

The third quarter was Saturn’s best, with the defence of Emily Bridges (GD) and Sally Haysham (GK) forcing long shots and mistakes from the Tomahawks shooters.

Charlie Francis(C) and Cerys Etheridge’s (WA) fed well into shooters Becky Hooper and Morganne Dunn, who took every opportunity to score, and so Saturn took a 10-goal lead into the final quarter.

The home team’s large number of supporters rallied their team, but Saturn held strong and finished the season with a great win, ending up sixth in the standings.

Neptune 40, Kestrels 61

INITIALLY, Neptune were goal for goal with their visitors, but Kestrels started to pull away and finished the first quarter 15-5 up.

Strong passing from Rebecca Dunn (WA) into Kia Jenner (GA) saw Neptune improve to end the second quarter trailing 31-16.

In the second half, great movement by Cerys Ethridge (GS) within the shooting area confused the Kestrels defence and tight defending from Emily Harwood (GK) enabled Neptune to reduce the deficit to 45-31.

In the final quarter, Neptune kept on the pressure and gained a well-earned bonus point, losing 61-40.

Venus 27, Reckleford 37

VENUS were the last team to step on court in the early spring sunshine.

But within the first few minutes the heavens opened, making this a very different game.

Emily Harwood (GK) and Aiste Mockeliunaite (GD) fought the elements to put constant pressure on Reckleford’s shooters, ably backed by Jo Woodberry (WD), restricting the first quarter to a low scoring 6-4 in the visitors’ favour.

The second quarter started brighter, with Hannah Sayer (C) and Chris Shaw (WA) fighting hard for possession and feeding the shooters with some pinpoint accuracy, but at half time Reckleford led 17-11.

Jessie Woodberry (GA) covered the court well and put away some great shots, helping Venus keep within touch at 25-17 down.

The final quarter saw a reshuffle, with Cerys Ethridge using her strength to hold off the defence and put away some vital shots.

Venus fought all the elements to earn a well deserved point, which was a great end to a difficult season contested throughout with grit and team spirit.

Mars 29, Kites 53

IN the first quarter great feeds into the circle by Clair Frances and Elaine Bowerman saw Mars make a strong start, but Kites finished the first quarter 9-7 ahead.

Mars came out fighting to catch up, and some excellent tips and interceptions by Eve Jenner, Abbey Alderwick and Katie Anthony let Mars get some great turnovers.

The third quarter saw some accurate shooting from Sharon Ethridge and Phoebe Alderwick but, despite an excellent effort from Mars, Kites won 53-29.
