THE Somerset trio of Lewis Gregory, Craig Overton and Jack Leach have starred for the MCC in the Champion County match, taking all 10 Middlesex wickets between them to put their side firmly in charge.

Gregory led the way with an excellent five-wicket haul, Overton claimed four scalps and Leach took one as the Somerset bowlers dominated proceedings on day two in Abu Dhabi.

Resuming on 9/1 - after Gregory had dismissed opener Sam Robson in his first over late on day one - Middlesex were immediately up against it when Leach found a gap in night-watchman Toby Helm's defences and clean bowled him for 15.

Plymouth-born all-rounder Gregory then ripped through the Middlesex top order, dismissing his former Somerset team-mate Nick Compton, highly-rated opener Nick Gubbins and the promising Stevie Eskinazi within the space of eight balls to leave the champions reeling on 68/5.

Dawid Malan and Josh Simpson steadied the ship, adding 96 for the sixth wicket, before Overton got in on the act and got rid of Malan and the incoming James Franklin in the same over.

Gregory then had his fifth wicket as Simpson was caught behind for 49 before Overton cleaned up the tail to finish with 4/37 as the MCC finished with a first innings lead of 153.

The two were then relied upon to dig the MCC out of a batting hole in their second innings, coming together with the score on 100-6 and adding 40 before Gregory was dismissed for 32.

Overton remained at the crease until stumps, finishing on 25*, as the MCC finished the day on 145/7, a lead of 298.
