TRYING to follow Leachy’s column from a couple of weeks ago is going to be tough after another dramatic climax in the Durham game.

It wasn’t the first tense finish to a game at Taunton this year and, hopefully, there are still a few more to come.

He probably doesn’t pay himself enough credit when he comments on the games and, to see him getting recognition from the top and being linked with England, is just reward for everything he puts in.

Of course it is not a one man effort and that has been one of the most important things to come out of this season. Everyone has chipped in at important times.

As a team, we always want to show character and fight in games, especially when the going gets tough.

That was always going to be tested in the knockout stages of the Royal London One-Day Cup. We are so desperate to win a trophy and perform to our potential and, to be in the mix in two competitions, is fantastic.

The support we get is second to none in the country and it would be incredible to be able to give something back to our supporters.

The victory against Worcestershire in the quarter-final showed that, if we play to our potential, we are a tough side to beat.

The game ebbed and flowed and to restrict them to 210 was another phenomenal effort from the bowlers on a good wicket.

For Mahela and Jim to knock it off the way they did was also pretty emphatic. We can’t wait for the semi-final. It’s a massive game for ourselves and the whole club. It should be a cracker.

A word also for Mahela, who showed his undoubted class in signing off with a seemingly effortless hundred. I’ve never seen anyone with the touch and control that MJ possesses.

He is such a popular member of the squad and I think I speak on behalf of the whole dressing room in saying that it was a huge privilege to have him at the club.

He has offered a huge amount to myself and all the younger players and, to have had the chance to play with him, was very special.

It is an exciting time for the club.
