BRIDGWATER Swimming Club was in action last week in the first round of the 2016 Cotswold Series.

They were up against top opposition in Bishopsworth, Bristol North and Wellington.

Despite the tough opposition and being short of swimmers due to illnesses and injuries, the team performed extremely well on the night.

The club started well, taking second place in the 15/u IM and had a good run of swims, but were made to wait until event five - the girls 11/u 25m front crawl - before taking the first win which was swum by Katie Derbyshire.

This was later follow up Becca Locke, who won the ladies open 100m butterfly.

The club was then made to wait until event 29 when Katie was back in action in the backstroke, where she led throughout to take a comfortable victory.

It was the boys vice captain Alex Towells turn take a win next, despite having a hectic schedule of swimming his own events, as well as swimming in the mens open events, he dominated the 15/u 50 freestyle.

The 11/u girls continued to impress with a win the freestyle relay which comprised of Jazz Forsey, Katie Derbyshire, Hannah Bremner and Madison Chilcott and then a win in the 25m breastsroke for Jazz.

Special mentions for Alice Pittey, Madison Chilcott, Adam Hughes, Joshua Hurford, and Jack Clarke, who made their debut appearances for the club in a gala format.

The final result was Wellington 155, Bishopsworth 140, Bridgwater 101, and Bristol North 96.
