ENMORE Park’s men won the county scratch knockout competition for the Pickeridge Bowl at Clevedon on Sunday.

In a very tight match, they beat the team from the Mendip Golf Club by three matches to two.

The first match out turned out to be the deciding game and went to the 20th hole, before James Popham emerged victorious after he put a beautiful chip shot from 20 yards off the green to within a foot.

Saturday was the local friendly against Cannington with a win for Enmore and a 100% win record intact for Nigel versus Ron.

The juniors had the Pearce Cup at the weekend with a small entry but great performances from the top three.

Third was Matt Ison on nett 67, who is now down to a five handicap and recently won the Moon Cup against Tom Cornish.

Joint first were Bradley Malone and Jake Bovington, but Jake won on countback.

The Sully Cup was also played at the weekend with Dave Winn and Geofff Garbett beating the Lazenby's in an up and down match.

Monday was the rearranged St. Margaret's Hospice Golf Day in memory of ex-member Phil Evans.

Another sunny day for the competitors and over £2,000 raised.

Organiser Sheela Bowden was in the winning ladies team with Julie Stafford and Daphne Priddy on 73 points.

Enmore Seniors were busy in the annual Senmetior trophy, this year held on the Tiverton course.

The three club competition ( M- Minehead, E- Enmore, T-Tiverton), with 16 players from each club taking part, proved to be somewhat of a canter for the home team, amassing 350 points whilst Enmore gained 321 and Minehead 273.

Enmore's 16 stalwarts were Perry, Lawrence, Waplington, Symcox, Pascoe, Pain, Lukins, Saunders, Newell, Cavill, Brown, Hancock,Anniss, Farnell, Pomeroy and McGuckin.

After a weekend break Enmore travelled to the Isle of Wedmore club and had a promising performance on away soil only going down by five matches to three, with captain elect Paul Waplington in charge.

Next saw a home game against Tiverton and produced a terrific result with a win by five and a half matches to one and a half, but more excitingly, this was only Tiverton's sixth defeat in 32 matches this year.

Understandably captain Mike Perry was over the moon and led the way with partner Chris Topps in a 4and3 win.

Other winners were Martin Watson with Paul Hibberd (4and2), Dave Pascoe with Dave Brown (2up), Graham Pain with Jim Smith (1up), Peter Farnell with Tony Pomeroy (4and3). Jim McGuckin with Steve James halved their match.

Neil Whisler and captain elect, Rob Fear, led from the front in Enmore's visit to Ilfracome on Sunday. After Mike Rossiter's generous concession to half a well contested second match, whereafter he birdied the 18th, the visitors had to rely on Martyn Collard and Mike Sullivan in the 5th group to win their game and finish the overall match with honours even.
