Bridgwater Town Reserves 3 Saltford 0

BRIDGWATER Town Reserves assistant manager, Dan Wright says there is ‘great competition for places’ in his side following Saturday’s 3-0 Senior Cup victory over Saltford at Fairfax Park.

Owen Sellick scored twice and Matt Connick was also on target to fire Town into the third round – and Wright was pleased to see his side progress without reaching top gear.

He said: “The important thing today was to win the game and progress in this competition.

“Once again we have won a fixture without reaching anywhere near our highest standard.

“We were able to rotate the squad a little today and allow a few to demonstrate what they bring to the table – on the back of that there are now some tough decisions to be made for Saturday with great competition for places across the board.”

Town took the lead when Matt Connick capitalised on an error in the Saltford penalty area before burying the ball home from close range.

The second goal came midway through the first-half - the inform Alex Male rolled two Saltford defenders and found Charlie White with a through ball, who crossed for Owen Sellick to tap home from close range.

Despite winning the game 2-0 early in this cup tie, Saltford displayed a never say die attitude and continued to work the ball into good areas in Bridgwater’s defensive third.

However Saltford were restricted to working the Robin’s keeper James Annison from 20-30 yards.

Although the men in red and white were not at their best, they scored another to make it 3-0 through Owen Sellick.

Substitute Scott Hobbs’ through ball found Sellick on the last man whom fired the ball past onrushing Saltford goalkeeper.

Bridgwater will be looking to extend their fine form when they entertain Yatton Athletic on Saturday, who beat the Robins 5-2 earlier in the season.
