Somerset Senior Cup second round

Stockwood Green 1-3 Middlezoy Rovers

MIDDLEZOY Rovers manager John Warren was full of praise for his players after they battled their way into the third round of the Somerset Senior Cup with a 3-1 win at Stockwood Green on Saturday.

Goals from Jed Williams, Dan Luce and Max Cushing capped a dominant display for Rovers – and manager Warren said his side had ‘too much quality’ for their opponents.

He said: "Despite not being at our best for large parts of the game, we had too much quality for our opponents this afternoon.

“I am very pleased with the result especially given the fact that we had three key players missing.

It's also encouraging to see two sixteen year old lads in the squad this week, both of which have bright futures ahead of them."

Jamie Temlett's cross found the head of Dan Luce and his effort was well saved by the home keeper, but Jed Williams smashed in the opener from the rebound on 24 minutes.

Greg Turner then crucially saved a Jason Orkins effort to keep the visitors ahead before Max Cushing doubled the lead, sweeping in from a well reversed Dan Luce free kick on 36 minutes.

After the break Middlezoy extended their advantage - with Temlett again causing problems down the right and his centre was lifted into the net by Luce as Middlezoy continued to dominate.

Temlett then had a goal chalked off for offside after Cushing had squared the ball across the area.

Andy Smith then blasted over when well placed moments later and Luce's effort also failed to trouble the keeper.

As the game drew to a close, Stockwood found a consolation through Orkins and a late scramble in the Middlezoy box was eventually cleared as Zoy ran out comfortable winners.
