Somerset County League Prem/Div 1 Cup

Westfield 2, Middlezoy Rovers 4

MIDDLEZOY produced a stunning second-half come back to ensure their perfect start to the season continued with an eventful win over Westfield on Saturday.

Goals from Lintell, Cushing and a brace from talisman Craig Wright saw them head home with a deserved victory despite being twice behind.

With their unbeaten record to defend, it did not start well for the visitors, conceding from a breakaway goal after Craig Wright had been poleaxed by the home goalkeeper.

Full-back Charlie Lintell levelled it up from close range on 29 minutes for his fourth goal in five games, but Westfield retook the lead on 37 after good work down the right.

Greg Turner then did well to beat away a long range effort as the home side took a slender lead in to the break.

After half-time Middlezoy found their rhythm and began to move the ball around the narrow pitch, enjoying the majority of possession.

Carl Tucker was unlucky not to equalise, his poked effort hitting the inside of the post after a junking run through the Westfield back line.

Charlie Lintell then struck the cross bar from range and Dan Luce failed to convert the rebound from three yards out.

Jed Williams then delivered a low cross for Craig Wright who was inches away from finding the required touch.

Wright then pulled a shot wide as the pressure grew and it was his corner that bought about the equaliser from the head of Max Cushing on the hour mark, who had only been on the pitch a matter of minutes.

Wright himself scored the third, drilling the ball across the keeper into the side netting after good approach play from Andy Smith - and that man Wright sealed it with a terrific diving header from a Steve Hall cross on 80 minutes.

Five consecutive wins in all completions for Middlezoy, who return to league action at Winscombe the weekend after next.
