OVER 200 competitors took part in the Enmore Park Captain’s Charity Day competition on Sunday (August 2) at which nearly £5,000 was raised for the captain’s charity - Ups and Downs Southwest, a Down syndrome support organisation based in Westonzoyland.

The day also attracted as sponsors a number of local businesses which was gratifying.

The main event, which was a team Bowmaker with two scores to count, was won by the well-known team of Ian Lane, Bob Read, Paul Martin and Andy Atkinson with a score of 89 points.

Other prize winners included Doug Read (nearest the pin on the 15th), Anne Perry and Ian Bowdige (nearest the pin on the practice hole), Alex Kippen and Carol Howe (longest drives) and John Stafford and Fiona Dobson (nearest the pin in two for the men and three for the ladies on the ninth).

In the nine-hole mixed roll up last Friday, it was tie for top spot with the Snelling's and Dobson's both scoring 30 points.

Club Day took place on Tuesday and the format saw one golfer's score to count on the first, two scores to count on the second, three scores to count on the third - this in the repeated six times.

The outright winners on the day were P. Hine, M. Woodman and S. Owens with 91 points for a 19-under-par total.

Taking second place courtesy of a better back nine score was the team of D. Winn, N. Bushill, M. Clapp and A. Clapp with 86 points, edging out the trio of T. King, J. Taylor and S. Kirby.

Enmore Park Seniors began a busy week with an away fixture at the Taunton and Pickeridge club - and sadly their poor away form went with them with only the pairing of Keith Calvert with Graham Pain registering their single point.

Many Seniors then de-camped to the Bowood course in Cornwall for three days of intensive training disguised as relaxing social golf.

Tuesday's winning threesome with 74 points was Mike Cavill, Sue Hockley and John Parker, second with 73 points was Jim Symcox, Jane Millett and Nigel Musgrave-Brown.

The junior section has thrived in recent weeks, with three juniors representing Somerset.

Jake Bovington played for the under 16s and won his singles match, Matt Ison played for both under 16s and 18s - with Matt winning both singles and also winning the crucial point as anchorman at Enmore in the U18s versus Devon.

Taylor Stote is the other junior who also made his debut for county men's first team and won his singles at Tehidy Park against Cornwall.
