WEPL Premier One Second XI

Bridgwater 2nd XI 72-0 beat Shapwick and Polden 71 by ten wickets

BRIDGWATER 2nd XI returned to the top of Premier One with a dominant ten-wicket victory over Shapwick and Polden, in a game that was finished by 4pm.

On winning the toss, skipper Scott Sealey inserted Shapwick and the decision was rewarded immediately as Ian Higgins picked up a wicket second ball of the game.

Both Higgins and Tim Hill bowled tight opening spells and were unlucky to not pick up any more wickets as the Shapwick batsmen played and missed on regular occasions.

The change bowlers of Andrew Skidmore and Daniel Rossiter were to pick up the rewards as they tore through the Shapwick batting leaving the home side in a hopeless position for which they couldn’t recover, eventually being dismissed for 71 in 31 overs.

Skidmore picked up 4-20, Rossiter 3-4, Higgins 1-10 and John Hill 1-5, and there was also a spectacular slip catch from Ali Witts.

In reply Bridgwater had no such trouble as Ben Coombes and Liam Kitch knocked off the required runs in 12 overs, Kitch being the aggressor with 48 not out and Coombes undefeated on 14.

The 2nd XI would like to thank umpire Alan Prowse, scorer Ken Stanton, match ball sponsors TMB Patterns LTD and match travel sponsors Falcon Vehicle Solutions LTD and Higos Insurance Services LTD.

Next weekend the 2nd XI travel to Bath in a top of the table encounter - and on Sunday they visit Purnells in the SCB Intermediate Cup Semi Final (11am).
