A HARD-hitting knock of 71 from Steve Tinnion wasn’t enough to prevent Shapwick and Polden from slumping to a six-wicket defeat to high-flying Thornbury in WEPL Premier Two.

Tinnion struck 13 fours in his 67-ball innings, but lacked any notable support as Shapwick were bowled out for 206, with Tom Lace (29) the best of the rest.

In reply, Thornbury were rarely troubled and cruised to their target in just 33 overs thanks to 58 from Dan Davis and 46 not out from Sam Summerfield.

Ben Rudge (2-38) and Ben Ackland (1-14) were the Shapwick wicket-takers, with a run out accounting for the other.

In Division 8N of the Somerset Cricket League, Spaxton were 119 run winners in their clash with Belvedere 2s.

J Venton (60), A Richards (42) and W Pither (62no) top scored for Spaxton as they posted an imposing 254-4 batting first, while three wickets apiece from A Richards (3-29) and T Bellinger (3-30) saw Belvedere bowled out for 135.

Elsewhere in the division, Bridgwater Sports crashed to a seven-wicket defeat at Banwell and Churchill.

Sports batted first and were skittled for just 76, leaving Banwell with the simplest of chases.

Wembdon Academy fell nine runs short at home to Temple Cloud, despite four players scoring more than 40.

M Syvret (54), M Denman (49), K Cosens (48) and W Anning (46no) all played nicely for Wembdon, but it wasn’t quite enough to take the win.

Earlier, Temple Cloud had posted 245-7 from 45 overs – M Syvret (3-52) was the pick of the Wembdon bowlers.

In Division Seven, Wembdon Wyverns also fell short, this time at Uphill Castle Cavaliers.

Chasing 154, the Wyverns were all out for 136, after D Buller (4-21) had helped restrict Uphill to an attainable total.

Elsewhere in Division Seven, Middlezoy 2s lost by seven wickets to Ilminster A, despite 31 from G White.

L Larcombe (7-29) was in devastating form with the ball for Ilminster as Zoy were dismissed for 132, before 68no from P Davies condemned the hosts to a heavy defeat.

Mark suffered an eight-wicket defeat at Winscombe 2 in Division Six as they failed to defend 111.

J Barwell top scored with 50 for Mark, but only two other players reached double figures in a heavy defeat.

Also in Division Six, Shapwick and Polden 3s slipped to a three-wicket defeat to Taunton St Andrews A – while in Division One, four wickets from Dan Rossiter couldn’t stop Bridgwater A from losing by 33 runs to Cheddar.
