CHRIS Gayle is hoping to put in another blockbuster performance when Somerset take on Hampshire at the County Ground tomorrow night – but this time, in a winning cause.

The West Indian superstar - who blitzed an unbeaten 151 from just 62 balls in Sunday's defeat at Kent – says he is pleased to have lived up to the huge expectation and is aiming to ‘capitalise’ on his impressive form.

“Yeah there was a lot of pressure, I could’ve been here for 2012 but that didn’t happen, so I knew the expectation was high - definitely coming off the IPL as well, with people looking forward to great things here,” he said.

“I’d never played in this NatWest T20 before so it was really fantastic to get a start like that - most players don’t get that sort of start, so when you do, you need to capitalise on it and make the best use of it.

“I’m really happy to have done well in the last two games and hopefully I can continue – these things don’t happen so often so you just try and make the best use of it while you can.

“We’ve got to improve our all-round cricket, both in the batting and the bowling department – once we can get those things combined and working together we should be able to win more games.”

Gayle is also looking forward to coming up against his former team mate Fidel Edwards, who signed for Hampshire on a Kolpak registration in March.

“There’s a few banters going on Twitter already and Darren Sammy has been pulling his (Fidel Edwards) leg, so he’s looking forward to Friday,” he said.

“Hopefully it will be another cracker and we come out on the winning side this time.”
