WEPL Somerset Division

North Petherton 253-8 beat Wellington 181 by 72 runs

NORTH Petherton recovered from 68-5 to beat Wellington by 72 runs in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League.

With the departure of former Somerset and England all rounder Ian Blackwell the Red and Blacks were on top - but a sixth-wicket stand of 159 swung the game Pethy’s way as they posted 253-8 from their 45 overs.

Petherton batted first on winning the toss and lost Hucker to Ian Hewson in the fourth over, but Pienaar and Bowditch with 22 and 21 respectively overcame this.

Lloyd Irish and Williams came together to take the game away from Wellington in 25 overs, as Irish made 99 and Williams 53.

In reply, Wellington lost an early wicket, before Arron Campbell and Alex Sparks added 50 for the second wicket, with Campbell making 26 and Sparks 25.

The skipper timed the ball well before being adjudged LBW to his opposite number Lewis Irish.

Wian Gouws got into the teens before Blackwell with 2-18 in 10 overs came on to the scene and started with five successive maidens – before Wellington finished up 181 all out.
