Corsham 191-9, Bridgwater 195-4

BRIDGWATER produced a professional performance on Saturday to ease past Corsham by six wickets at the Parks on Saturday.

After Bridgwater captain Steve Davis elected to field first, Bridgwater began in a sloppy fashion as Corsham raced to 40 within the first few overs thanks to some lusty blows from Steve Bullen (31).

However, Bridgwater soon applied the brakes Chris Skidmore (1-25) removed Bullen, who was well caught by Andy Hallaran at first slip.

Chris Singleton (1-11) bowled with great control, removing Abbott for just three before Higgins (1-54) removed Morrison with the score at 53-3.

Former Bridgwater man Mike Coles (62) was the only Corsham batsman who appeared to have the ability to cause any trouble as he batted steadily for his half-century.

He was eventually removed by the excellent Van der Berg (4-40) who narrowly avoided picking up his second successive five-wicket haul in a great spell of fast bowling.

Corsham eventually reached 191-9 in their allotted overs after two late run outs stalled their late innings scoring.

Bridgwater always looked capable of chasing Corsham’s total and openers Hallaran and Gange (38) put on 81 for the first wicket with both players finding the boundary with regularity.

Hallaran was eventually bowled by Coles for a well-played 44 but Windsor (38*), Davis (26) and Van der Berg (27) saw Bridgwater home with ease with the winning runs coming in the 41st over.

Bridgwater travel to Ilminster next week looking to make it three wins in a row, whilst the second XI entertain Shapwick & Polden at the Parks.

Bridgwater would like to thank sponsors Millennium Catering.
