Gems 43, Saturn 23

THE teams both started quite erratically and the score was close after the first-quarter, with Gems just ahead 7-5.

Gems continued to build throughout the second quarter, establishing a five-goal lead by half time.

The defence in the circle was tight and Saturn were only able to score three goals in the third quarter, whereas Gems attack and shooters had settled into the match and scored 13.

Gems closed out the game strongly.

Player of the match went to Danni Keirle.

Umpires player of the match was Beth Fella – Gems sponsored by CountryWide Windows.

Venus 70, Emeralds 9

EMERALDS played a good game against Venus, which started off with a tough first-quarter, but unfortunately Venus took an early lead.

There was some good defending from all players but the Venus attack broke through and when ball was turned over Emeralds could not capitalise.

Emeralds fought well and the shooters made some superb shots from range, however Venus maintained their lead. Player vote was awarded to Kirsty Richards and the umpire vote was awarded to Savanna Sulmina.

Rubies 39, Walton 23

RUBIES came out strong and took an early lead, with a coordinated attack and finished the first quarter 8-4.

Walton fought back hard in the second quarter with some good defensive work but this was counteracted by the Rubies defensive effort from player of the match Tilly Milburn which ended the second quarter 18-11.

Rubies kept fighting in the third quarter and with good centre court support the shooters were able to further extend the lead thereby ending the quarter 27-18.

With a small swap around in the final quarter, Rubies kept fighting to the end and pulled out the lead for a 39-23 victory.
