Truro A 1, Bridgwater 1st XI 3

A STRONG second-half performance fired Bridgwater to an important victory over Truro on Saturday.

Bridgwater got off to a good start, creating some good chances in the first 15 minutes without capitalising.

It took a lovely passing move with Lott finding Taylor, who squared the ball to Ash Woolmington to break the deadlock.

The final ten minutes of the first half played totally different with Truro putting Bridgy under pressure – and they finally got the equaliser from a short corner where the shot deflected off Jenkins’ stick into the corner of the goal.

Bridgy totally dominated the second-half, scoring two goals – first from Will Pope with a sweep shot and then from Martin James, who struck a sweet shot into the goal.

Some good defending meant Truro had no real chances, leaving Bridgwater to run out winners.

This leaves Bridgwater tied for second and still two behind on goal difference so the aim for next week is goals, goals and more goals to try and pinch the final promotion spot.

East Devon 5th XI 2, Bridgwater Men 5th XI 0

BRIDGWATER slumped to a 2-0 defeat at East Devon on Saturday.

The visitors knew they were in for a game as soon as the whistle went as East Devon looked hungrier to win and had a lot of pace and skill up top.

It wasn’t long before East Devon had a couple of good chances which were saved by the right boot and pad of Mark Hutter.

The second half started poorly from Bridgwater as they conceded very early on and, in a game where both sides lack penetration, this was going to be hard to come back from.

Bridgwater came close with a short corner that was just too straight but it wasn’t to be as, despite a block on the line, Syvret couldn’t prevent an East Devon shot from going in.

Bridgwater Ladies 1st XI 3, ECVH 1

BRIDGWATER travelled to Cullompton and played most of the first half against ECVH with only ten players as two of the squad were delayed. 3 Not deterred, Bridgwater started in lively form and were soon pressuring the ECVH goal area.

This pressure was rewarded with a goal from close range by Jules Griffiths.

Further chances were not converted and, after a spell of possession, ECVH were awarded and scored from a penalty stroke.

After the break, Bridgwater reaffirmed their dominance scoring another two goals. The first from Millie Burridge from a short corner and the second was a solo effort from Kath Briggs.

Player of the match was Donna Cooper.

Bridgwater Ladies 2nd XI 0, Minehead 1sts 8

BRIDGWATER ladies suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Minehead 1s, who are near the top of the division, on Saturday.

Kate Ward, Beth and Megan Ridler enjoyed some space to drive into attack with Megan Weston playing in midfield really chasing down the Minehead players.

Sue Chaplin returned to play a controlled game, adding experience to the squad, while Becky Oram and Rachel Higgs worked in the middle to create space.

Unfortunately, the Minehead experience and strength in attack saw them scoring freely and from some acute angles, despite some great saves from keeper Sam Hutter.
