Premier/First Division Cup Quarter-final

Bridgwater Town Reserves 2, Berrow 0

BRIDGWATER cruised into the semi-finals with a solid performance against local rivals Berrow on Saturday.

Kenzie Farnham and Mike Duffy were on target for Town in a professional display from the hosts – and manager Luke Buckingham said his side were deserved winners.

He said: “It was a solid performance from the team today and I thought our energy and endeavour was outstanding.

“Despite a difficult pitch, we managed to pass the ball well in spells and I thought the scoreline was a fair reflection of the game.

“As a group, we’ve worked hard all season and we are delighted to be in the semi-final.”

Bridgwater started at a frantic tempo with the front three of Matt Connick, Lee Villis and Charlie White causing the visitors problems with their energy and pace.

On a difficult playing surface, Bridgwater played some good football with Mike Duffy particularly impressive in the home side’s midfield.

They went close to taking a deserved lead when a Tyne Govier corner found captain Josh White at the far post, only for his powerful header to be blocked the line.

Shortly after the half-time break, Bridgwater switched to a back three and introduced forward Kenzie Farnham.

Only minutes after his introduction, Farnham broke the deadlock after some excellent work by Lee Villis allowed Farnham to bundle in from close range.

Immediately after their first goal, the home side were denied a second when, following a neat team move, Andy Venning’s sidefoot finish was smartly saved by Nick Slack in the Berrow goal.

Bridgwater’s lead was doubled with 20 minutes left when Mike Duffy’s powerful strike was misjudged by Slack and flew in at the near post.

This goal deflated the away side and Bridgwater held on for a comfortable win and a spot in the league cup semi-final versus Dundry on April 11.

l Bridgwater return to league duty on Saturday when they travel to Odd Down Reserves (ko 3pm); then, next Wednesday, they entertain Clutton (ko 7.45pm)
