Somerset Senior Cup Quarter Final

Timsbury 5, Middlezoy Rovers 5 (AET) - Middlezoy won 4-3 on penalties

MIDDLEZOY Rovers progressed to the last four of the Somerset Senior Cup, after coming from three goals down to eventually win a ten-goal thriller after extra time and a penalty shoot out.

Middlezoy began the stronger and Andy Smith missed a great chance to give them the lead, heading over with the goal at his mercy.

At the other end a quick break away led to Justin Dowling finishing well to give the home side the lead against the run of play.

The visitors continued to look the better side and Ben Paisey in the home goal saved well from a Dan Luce effort to preserve the lead.

Middlezoy always looked vulnerable to the counter attack and were undone again on 25 minute by a similar move, finished again by Dowling for his second.

Darren Cann headed over from close range for the visitors before they were again done by a quick counter attack, finished by Craig Dowling, finding themselves three goals down after 39 minutes.

On the stroke of half time Carl Tucker headed home from a Dan Luce corner to deservedly reduce the arrears.

Craig Wright got Middlezoy's second just after the break after robbing the ball from a centre half and rounding Paisey, but Timsbury extended their lead when a free-kick was spilled by Steve Baker, allowing Jimmy Hailston to prod home to restore the two goal advantage.

Max Cushing finished well to reduce the deficit to one goal - and as the half progressed Timsbury were dropping deeper as Middlezoy searched for the equaliser.

With eight minutes remaining goalkeeper Paisey was penalised for a foul in the area on Smith and Wright made no mistake from the penalty spot, burying his 30th goal of the season.

After just two minutes of extra-time Middlezoy went in front for the first time when Dan Luce was released by Wright and hit a crisp shot past Paisey for the goal of the game.

It seemed that would be the crucial breakthrough but with the final kick of the 30 minutes Justin Dowling hit a fine shot past Baker to complete his hat-trick.

The game moved into penalties and it was Middlezoy who held their nerve to win the spot-kick battle 4-3 and advance to the semi-finals.

Middlezoy will face one of three Premier Division sides in the Semi Final, but continue their league action this weekend at Gordano.
